Nicole D. Shivers is an education specialist, author, and cultural producer focusing on the history and performing arts of Africa and its Diaspora. Nicole is a former Education Specialist at Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art (NMAFA), with an expertise in special commission performances.

In 2012, she was selected to be part of The Getty’s Leadership Institute: Museum Leaders: The Next Generation Program. Nicole is the perfect ambassador for explaining the importance of creating exciting, engaging and enriching experiences.

Recently, Nicole traveled to Oman, where she worked with participants in training workshops to build education and outreach capacity at Omani museums. While there, she also taught Omani museum professionals about the importance of creating engaging programs for visitors.

Supporting Museums in Oman   Active

In 2010, Smithsonian collaborated with the Sultanate of Oman and the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Culture to transform the Oman Natural History Museum into a powerful educational and scientific resource. Smithsonian and Omani staff developed a master plan for the museum, including a mission and vision, staffing plan, collections management plan, and an organizational plan.
