En 2014, l'exposition de l'Asian Pacifique American Center du Smithsonian baptisée Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation s'exporte en Inde, à New Delhi, Goa, Chennai et Calcutta, en partenariat avec le département d’État américain. L'exposition itinérante en Inde s'est inscrite dans une démarche diplomatique et culturelle du gouvernement américain avec pour objectif de susciter le débat, de faire tomber les stéréotypes et de cimenter le lien social entre ces deux pays.
Begun as an exhibition on Indian American contributions to American history, the exhibition was quickly seen by the U.S. Department of State as something that would be interesting and applicable to audiences in India. Former Smithsonian curator Masum Momaya, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Service (SITES), and the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India collaborated to create a portable version of the exhibition that could travel through India, and Masum toured with it for two weeks. As thousands of Indians visited the exhibition, they asked questions and shared ideas with Masum. Throughout her time traveling Beyond Bollywood, she realized that the substantive and complex conversations she had with viewers were the most integral and dynamic part of the experience.
L'exposition sillonne toujours le pays, et son influence va en grandissant et contribue à renforcer les liens existant entre les États-Unis et l'Inde. Les visiteurs indiens se sentent ainsi plus impliqués dans la culture américaine et indo-américaine, l'exposition Beyond Bollywood donnant lieu à de véritables échanges culturels.
